The paperwork that gates a shipment, generated from it

Formist reads commercial invoices, supplier data and letters of credit to file the CBAM declaration, check EU Taxonomy alignment and clear a trade-compliance pack, each figure traceable to its source document.

What slows a trade desk down

A CBAM quarterly filing that eats a compliance team’s calendar four times a year.

EU Taxonomy alignment checked after the capital has already moved, not before.

A letter of credit checked clause by clause against shipment documents by hand.

Default emission values inflating a CBAM certificate bill when the real supplier data exists, just scattered across invoices.

The skills it carries for this sector

Each skill is a pre-trained workflow for one regulated output. Upload your own invoices, supplier data or letters of credit and Formist fills the official file, not a summary of it.

Frequently asked questions

Can Formist file my CBAM quarterly declaration?

Yes. Formist reads commercial invoices, supplier emission data and CN code mappings and generates the XML file compliant with the EU CBAM Transitional Registry’s QReport schema, ready for upload.

Can it also complete the CBAM Communication Template for a non-EU installation?

Yes. For an exporting installation, Formist calculates embedded emissions and fills the CBAM Communication Template Excel workbook under IR 2025/2547 and IR 2023/1773, including precursor tracking and any carbon-price deduction.

Can Formist check an investment against EU Taxonomy before the money moves?

Yes. Formist screens an activity against the technical screening criteria, applies Do No Significant Harm and the minimum social safeguards, and produces the alignment tables before the investment decision rather than after it.

Can it check a letter of credit against shipment documents?

Not yet. Clause-by-clause UCP 600 checking against shipment documents is on the roadmap; CBAM declarations and EU Taxonomy checks are live today.

Who is legally responsible for filing, the importer or the exporter?

The EU importer, or their indirect customs representative, is legally responsible for CBAM filings. In practice the data usually comes from the exporter, since only the supplier holds production-level emission data. Formist is built for both sides to use.

What happens if the filing is late or the data is wrong?

CBAM penalties for incomplete or inaccurate reports run EUR 10 to 50 per tonne of undeclared embedded emissions, with falsified data risking fines up to three times the certificate price. Formist flags missing data before filing, not after a penalty notice.
